Sally Rowley is a project manager who is currently living in Venice, FL. Although she has lived in Florida for over a decade, she is originally from South Bend, Indiana, where she came from a large family of eleven. Her family is now spread around the world, with members all over the United States, as well as locations as far away as Italy and Russia. Every two years, they host a large family reunion in memory of their mother. They have been held at many different locations, and the last one was at a dude ranch in Colorado. Hosting a family reunion can be stressful, but these gatherings can also be extremely fun with good planning.
- Ask all family members where and when they’d like to hold the reunion about a year in advance, so that everyone can book their travel tickets and get time off of work accordingly.
- Delegate tasks to the people who will be best at them. The best cook should be in charge of food, the social butterfly in charge of planning activities, and the money whiz in charge of finances. One person shouldn’t be doing all the work – a team effort is the best way to get everything done. You can even involve the kids when it comes to setting up for the actual reunion by having them help run errands and get things put together.
- Offer enough variety to keep everyone happy. Have a few different activities for different ages and groups of people, and be sure to offer a few different kinds of food.
